
Liz has three teenage children, and is about to set up a new house with her partner Craig who has no kids. When she separated from her husband 10 years ago, she struggled financially. She learnt how to get sorted the hard way, and now makes a point of keeping in control of her money.
She has modest savings, but knows what she needs to do to prepare for her retirement when the kids have got through school. Craig is pretty loose with money, and it takes quite a bit to convince him they need to see a lawyer to get their respective financial positions legally agreed.
Liz loves Craig, but she has learnt the hard way to plan for the worst. When it comes to her financial future, she’s determined to to look after herself. She asks the lawyer to draw up an agreement which makes it clear that her current and future savings are her property and will go to her children on her death.
