Securing your future without risks

Stu and Pia were in their early 40s – the mortgage had just been paid off and the kids were starting to leave home. Pia in particular was looking forward to spending the second half of their lives in peace (without the children!) and security (without the mortgage).

But Stu was causing a bit of trouble! He had always worked for wages as a panel beater, but had long hankered to go into business and become self-employed.

Pia who really valued security thought this was a crazy idea and continually pointed out the risks of being in business to Stu. The couple debated this for some weeks – Stu wanted his dream, Pia wanted her security.

Eventually Pia relented, but with a condition. Pia told Stu that she thought that the whole idea of being in business was stupid but if he had to do it, he had to do it. However, before he went ahead he was to fulfill Pia’s one condition: that the house be put away in a family trust so that no matter what “dumb stuff” Stu did with this business of his, the house would always be there, safe and secure for the family.
