The activities at Kids & Money are designed to help kids aged 5 to 12 years understand some basic concepts about money matters. Set on and around "Money Island", they take kids on an interactive journey where they can quickly learn some basic financial skills that can be used in real life.
At Kids & Money, kids move through three levels – Money Island, Dollar Reef and Cash Cloud. Each level has two games and an activity with a clear explanation of how to complete them, along with background information on how the game or activity will help kids develop basic real-world financial skills.
Each game or activity also has links to the NZ Curriculum Framework with key financial concepts, achievement objectives and skills all indicated.
At the end of each game or activity, you'll find guided questions that you can ask your kids to help them remember some of the key financial concepts.
Each game or activity is designed to help kids learn a new life skill. We hope you and your kids will find them fun, and that with your help, they’ll use the skills they learn in everyday situations.
Curriculum links in games
Each activity and game in Kids & Money contains key financial concepts based on the financial education framework developed by Enterprise New Zealand Trust. The framework has been designed to work with NZ Curriculum Framework to provide clear achievement objectives and essential skills in each activity and game.
Guided questions
At the end of each activity, you'll find a series of guided questions devised to test how your students are learning and understanding our key financial concepts, skills and values. These can be used for oral assessment, or in the case of older kids, written assessment.
