Save your pay before you see it

Regular saving is key to getting your money sorted, but we all know how hard it can be.

Our advice is simple. Don't put yourself through the anguish of temptation every payday. Put some of your pay away before you see it - you can't miss what you've never seen.

The easiest way to do this is by contributing to KiwiSaver or a company super scheme. If you don't want to join KiwiSaver or don't have access to a company super scheme, consider setting up a salary deduction.

A salary deduction sends some of your pay directly into a savings account or private super plan, and sends the rest into the bank account you use day to day. Your employer will probably be happy to arrange this for you.

To make it easy for you to arrange a salary deduction with your employer, we've designed a simple form you can fill in and give to them. They'll then arrange for your pay to be deducted according to the instructions you've given them. To view and print the form you will need the Adobe Acrobat plug-in. If you don't have the plug-in you can download it free here.

Download the form in PDF format.

If you're not sure how much you can afford to save, have a go at working out a budget to decide how much you can save regularly.
