Budgeting

It might feel like it's cramping your style, but if you make a budget that suits you, it can be one of your most powerful tools for getting ahead financially. Our budget calculator makes it easy.

You can take two approaches to using our budget form. Are you more the "cold turkey" type or the "nip and tuck" type?

If you have anything left over from your pay packet once you've paid for essential items we suggest you go "cold turkey". Take away the temptation to spend everything you earn by "paying yourself first". Just decide on an amount or a proportion of your income you're going to save each pay to improve your financial position, and then see how the rest of your budget takes shape.

Otherwise, the "nip and tuck" approach is for you. Fill out your budget so you can see where your money is going at the moment. Then see if you can nip some spending, to tuck in some savings elsewhere.

Have a play with your budget to see what will help you get sorted. Once you've done the hard work you can save it in the My Plan section.

A tight budget is harder to stick to

Don’t make your budget too tight. If you do, you’re less likely to stick to it. And don't forget about the income side of the equation.
